Hanlim graduated from Seoul National University with a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering. As an undergraduate, he studied quantum dot qubits and superradiant lasing.

At MIT, Hanlim is interested in quantum dots-cQED hybrid systems, with a primary emphasis on achieving remote entanglement generation between distant quantum dot qubits.

Hanlim is a recipient of the Korea Foundation for Advanced Study (KFAS) Scholarship.
